Market Intelligence.
Beacon Energy has substantial experience in the collection,
analysis, interpretation and presentation of company-specific and/or market
level data and information relevant to the needs of our energy industry
clients. We have provided clients with detailed information and strategic
insights into more than fifty energy companies and over sixty global
markets. The results of our daily monitoring efforts allow us to identify
opportunities for our clients and conduct statistical analyses to identify
changes in markets.
Project Restructuring and Financing.
Our principals have
provided expert market and fuel advice for non-recourse financing projects
aggregating in excess of $5 billion. This experience encompasses both
domestic and international power projects. We extensively analyze market
risks and contribute solutions that facilitate the closing of investment
transactions. Beacon Energy has performed asset valuations and due
diligence evaluations for project acquisitions, as well as developed and
negotiated strategic alliances and partnering agreements. In the difficult
energy market of 2003, Beacon Energy has been successful in helping to
restructure projects.
Market Analysis and Power Price Forecasting.
Within North
America, Beacon Energy has conducted analyses on NEPOOL, PJM, NYPP, ECAR,
MAIN, MAPP, WSCC, SERC, FPP, SPP, BC, Ontario, Alberta and Mexico. We have
also carried out analyses of international markets including Australia,
Brazil, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Spain, Philippines,
Poland, Thailand, Venezuela, Vietnam, and the United Kingdom. Our
principals have contributed to power projects aggregating in excess of
11,000 megawatts and were instrumental in the establishment of three
separate power marketing operations. We have built proprietary models to
assist in analyzing future market pricing and conditions.
Strategic Planning.
For US and International Companies and Clients, Beacon Energy
has analyzed markets, evaluated competitors and designed business strategies
to help companies achieve competitive advantages. These business plans
involved running internal strategy sessions and substantial external
research.
Fuel Price Forecasting.
With the assistance of leading university professors, Beacon
Energy has developed a proprietary gas forecasting model. This model has
contributed to or provided fuel forecasts for several U.S. locations at time
horizons ranging from prompt month to 20 years out. This proprietary model
is combined with our data resources to include actual finding cost databases
coupled with our detailed market and pipeline knowledge to assist in
forecasting long-term natural gas prices. Beacon has also forecasted for
merchant plants in PJM, NEPOOL, NYPP, ECAR, MAIN, SERC, SPP and WSCC. We
have also evaluated fuel price projections for several international
markets, including Mexico, Brazil, Thailand and portions of Europe.
Fuel Contracting.
To support the financing of projects, Beacon Energy has
negotiated fuel supply agreements for projects in the Southeast, Midwest,
Northeast and on the West Coast of the U.S. as well as in portions of
Mexico.
Energy Management Plans.
Beacon Energy has written
comprehensive energy management plans for equity sponsors and for project
financings. These documents describe every aspect of the project’s energy
strategy and logistics, as well as the market opportunity and operating
constraints.
Power Contracting.
Beacon Energy applies our
knowledge of wholesale markets to develop power sales contracts and
strategies designed to match the risk and return requirements of project
developers. The firm has experience in developing and negotiating effective
tolling arrangements and standard power purchase agreements for plants
intended for peaking, baseload, and load following operations.
Gas Contracting.
Beacon Energy defines gas
supply strategies, provides cost estimates and goals, identifies suppliers,
issues and evaluates RFPs, and drafts and negotiates gas supply agreements.
The firm has accumulated significant experience in both the domestic and
international markets.
Transmission Planning and Contracting.
Beacon Energy has
analyzed transmission systems, evaluated areas for improvement and assisted
in asset valuations. Beacon Energy has been active at following transmission
regulatory and legislative activities. Beacon Energy has worked with ISOs
and electric utilities to acquire power transmission rights. We have
managed load flow studies, filed interconnection requests, negotiated with
utilities and ISOs, and obtained firm transmission rights.
LMP Forecasting.
Beacon Energy has performed
long-term Locational Marginal Pricing forecasts to help clients determine
the possible profitability of a plant given a range of possible changes in
the regulatory environment, transmission line upgrading, new plants,
retirements, and fuel costs. |
